1Malaysia. Is it an issue?

1Malaysia is an effort to find a stronger platform for racial and national integration in this country. And in trying to read between the lines, I believe the underlying objective is to create and regain, after the very dismal performance of BN in the last general elections, the confidence of the people in the ability and the commitment of the BN government to uphold the rights, the interest and the welfare of everyone under the Malaysian sun. Whether expressed or unexpressed, the objectives are plausible and noble indeed in the interest of the nation as a whole. Based on this premise and the general reactions of the people since the concept was introduced by Prime Minister Najib, I don't consider the 1Malaysia conceptis an issue. It is generally well-received by the people, meaning to say there is no 1Malaysia issue per se. What might become an issue is the fact that this concept is what I call a generic policy from which will be derived many other policies with all their bureaucracies. The case of Marina Undau is a fine example of an administrative decision which are seen by many as not in keeping with the spirit of 1Malaysia. Everybody, at all levels , from the man on the street to those in the corridors of power, must play their respective roles in line with the three basic tenets and eight principal values of 1Malaysia. To cut the story short, 1Malaysia concept must be seen to be happening. Don't just pay lip service! Cheers.
